'People are intimidated' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal are the side to defeat.

The proof is unmistakable why Arsenal stand as many people's favorites to claim the Premier League this season.

Consider their results against Newcastle and Crystal Palace in contrast with those equivalent matches last season.

The Gunners have defeated all of them in the current season, but lost 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race previously.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a key reason why they are seeming ready to ultimately achieve their title goal.

They rank top for unbreached games (6), goals allowed (3), shots faced (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the strongest in the league, with Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Superiority

Their effectiveness from free kicks is well known, but opposition teams still find it difficult to contain the Gunners from these situations.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just afraid of them and it is excellent to see."

Title Potential

What is even more notable about Arsenal's start to the campaign is they have also encountered Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still four points clear at the top.

While they maintain victories, their long-standing opponents aren't faring so well. This marks the premier instance at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on head coach Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having invested around £250m on eight summer signings in quest of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far paid off in style, with his side among the highest scorers in the league and possessing the most resilient defense, despite numerous injuries.

  • Clean sheets in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without letting in a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across various contests

Former players and pundits have described Arteta's men as a "unstoppable force, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now performing with belief and purpose.
